چکیده

On the Semantic Web, the types of resources and the semantic relationships between resources are defined in an ontology. By using that information, the accuracy of information retrieval can be improved. In this paper, we present effective ranking and search techniques considering the semantic relationships in an ontology. Our technique retrieves top-k resources which are the most relevant to query keywords through the semantic relationships. To do this, we propose a weighting measure for the semantic relationship. Based on this measure, we propose a novel ranking method which considers the number of meaningful semantic relationships between a resource and keywords as well as the coverage and discriminating power of keywords. In order to improve the efficiency of the search, we prune the unnecessary search space using the length and weight thresholds of the semantic relationship path. In addition, we exploit Threshold Algorithm based on an extended inverted index to answer top-k results efficiently. The experimental results using real data sets demonstrate that our retrieval method using the semantic information generates accurate results efficiently compared to the traditional methods. 2013 Elsevier Ltd. RSS: A framework enabling ranked search on the semantic web

The semantic web not only contains resources but also includes the heterogeneous relationships among them, which is sharply distinguished from the current web. As the growth of the semantic web, specialized search techniques are of significance. In this paper, we present RSS—a framework for enabling ranked semantic search on the semantic web. In this framework, the heterogeneity of relationship...

Utilizing Resource Importance for Ranking Semantic Web Query Results

To realize the vision of the Semantic Web, effective techniques of Information Retrieval need to be developed. Ranking the results of a search is one of the main challenges of an Information Retrieval system. In this paper we present a technique for ranking the results of a Semantic Web query. The ranking is based on various factors including the Semantic Web resource importance. We have modifi...

Context-Aware Semantic Association Ranking

Discovering complex and meaningful relationships, which we call Semantic Associations, is an important challenge. Just as ranking of documents is a critical component of today’s search engines, ranking of relationships will be essential in tomorrow’s semantic search engines that would support discovery and mining of the Semantic Web. Building upon our recent work on specifying types of Semantic...

The ρ Operator: Discovering and Ranking Associations on the Semantic Web

In this paper, we introduce an approach that supports querying for Semantic Associations on the Semantic Web. Semantic Associations capture complex relationships between entities involving sequences of predicates, and sets of predicate sequences that interact in complex ways. Detecting such associations is at the heart of many research and analytical activities that are crucial to applications ...

Towards Supporting Exploratory Search over the Arabic Web Content: The Case of ArabXplore

Due to the huge amount of data published on the Web, the Web search process has become more difficult, and it is sometimes hard to get the expected results, especially when the users are less certain about their information needs. Several efforts have been proposed to support exploratory search on the web by using query expansion, faceted search, or supplementary information extracted from exte...
